Hello Style Gurus! My name is Melany and I am a sophomore at University of Bridgeport. I am a fashion merchandising major and this is my fourth semester with CollegeFashionista. I’m currently interested in becoming a stylist, buyer, or costume designer.
I’m very involved at my school. I am captain of my university’s ballroom team, a choir member, and I am a member of  my school’s fashion club.
I’ve been in love with fashion since I was a little girl. Growing up, I always liked to dress nice for school. I’ve been a dancer for 17 years. Dance also influenced my love for fashion. Costume day was my favorite as a kid. This also influenced my interest in costume design. When I was a freshman in high school, I had to take an art class and always found myself doodling sketches of costumes and matching them with songs that I thought would fit the outfits. Since then I haven’t been sketching as much, but I would love to relearn how to sketch.
I love CollegeFashionista not only for the awesome fashion advice and to see what’s trendy on campus, but I love coming up to people and making them feel good. It’s really amazing when you can boost someone else’s confidence just by telling them how much you like their outfit. I feel that sometimes girls are often categorized as “catty”  or  “cliquey” but this internship really helps girls lift each other up instead of pushing each other down, which is something that I really like.
I’m really excited to kick off another rad semester with CollegeFashionista and I really hope that you enjoy reading my articles. Please feel free to rad them to let me know you liked reading them!
