Hello there, lovely fashionistas/os! My name is Melody Chan and I am so excited to be a Style Guru at CollegeFashionista for another RAD semester. Unfortunately, this will be my last semester at Brooklyn College,c where I am majoring in film with a concentration in screenwriting. I am also minoring in journalism. To put it simply: I write… a lot.
When I’m not holed up in my room trying to put my thoughts onto paper, I’m outside exploring. Although I have lived in New York City my whole life, I have yet to get tired of it. The city that never sleeps constantly amazes me with its variety of cuisines and the fusion of cultures. Needless to say, I am proud to have such a diverse group of people that make up my hometown.
On top of that, my fellow New Yorkers give me so much fashion inspiration. Whenever I’m out and about at SoHo or 34th Street, I love to take notice of what other people are wearing. I can certainly count on them for the latest trends but most importantly, everyone dresses differently to express his or her personality. For example, the same jean jacket worn by two different people can be styled in completely different ways.
Likewise, I also have my own fashion preferences. While I do enjoy dressing casually to stay comfortable at all times (who doesn’t?), I like to switch things up from time to time. Putting on accessories and a nice dress paired with heels always put me into a good mood. Especially since I don’t have to worry about what top goes with my bottoms!
On another note, I like to keep in mind that I don’t dress to impress. Instead, I dress for myself. If I love what I’m wearing and feel great in my outfit, then it’s as if I can accomplish anything.
