STYLE GURU BIO: Mervelline Aflata

Itโ€™s only right to talk about News Yearโ€™s resolutions since it is the first day of the new year but Iโ€™ll refrain since there is a 99.99% chance that I will completely forget about them and will start over next year.

On a more positive note, hey everyone! My name is Mervelline Aflata and Iโ€™m a senior at DePaul University where I am majoring in marketing with a heavy concentration in business concepts. Iโ€™ve been in college for roughly four years and it feels like itโ€™s been four minutes. Iโ€™m not quite sure how I made it this far without completely losing my mind but the graduation pictures will definitely be worth it.

I was originally born in the Democratic Republic of Congo then I moved to Champaign, IL which is where I grew up. Being from a small town, concepts like fashion generally arenโ€™t executed in an inspiring way which is how I became so fascinated with fashion. I would always have magazines subscriptions to the top magazines and thatโ€™s how I became exposed to fashion on a larger and much more creative scale. I use fashion as a form of self-expression, as a means to connect with others who share my passion and as a hobby.

The transition from a very small city to living in Chicago was a scary one but it was the transition that I needed in order to catapult my education, my fashion sense and an overall sense of who I am as a person. Chicago is home to a variety of notable things such as the pizza, Searโ€™s Tower and the list goes on, but it is home to an immaculate palette of style, whether it be street style or high fashion. Iโ€™m very excited to share my passion on such an amazing platform and put a spotlight on amazing people with amazing fashion on my campus!
