Hello my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Michelle Bonikos and I am currently a junior at SUNY Oneonta. This is my first time writing for CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru, and I could not be more excited! I want to take this opportunity to cultivate my love and interest for fashion not only by posting articles about my personal style, but also by reading and learning about other Style Gurus. This fall semester I will be blogging about the latest trends as well as offering style advice of my own. I couldn’t be more thrilled to share my ideas with you!
Fashion has always been a significant part of my life, serving as a source of inspiration and art. Fashion helps me express myself in a more abstract way rather than just using words. However, fashion is not my only passion; photography has always been a huge aspect in my life as well. After getting into fashion magazines, I began to view clothing and photography as an outlet from the real world. The way the industry combines fashion and photography into art is extremely fascinating to me, and it has become a goal of mine to create the same work of art through my own personal style and talent.
I can appreciate many different styles, which is why I am not so quick to define my fashion sense into one category. For example, some days I like grunge, other days I will want to dress a little preppy. But regardless the style, I will always be a huge lover of accessories; whether they are big or small, they always make a statement. If you want to dress casual, wear your favorite jeans and comfortable top. But there is no rule that stands in the way of creativity and style. You can dress classy and comfortable by adding a piece of jewelry, or a striking handbag. Nothing says “independent” like wearing Prada around your neck, or Louis Vuitton in your hand.
