My name is Mikayla Dent. I am a junior at the University of Kentucky where I am earning a double degree in merchandising, apparel and textiles and strategic communications. This is my second semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru, and I could not be more excited. I have so much fun talking to other stylish girls around campus and being able to feature them! Fall is my absolute favorite season so this semester will feature great transitional looks! Football season or CATerday season, as it’s known to Kentuckians, is what fall revolves around and having the perfect tailgating outfit is a must! I will definitely be keeping my eyes open at games to feature some fabulous game day Fashionistas!
After school I want to own a boutique, work as a stylist or maybe even work in fashion public relations, which would integrate both of my degrees. Thankfully I don’t have to make that big decision too soon, but it’s coming up faster then I can imagine. I draw most of my fashion inspiration from Pinterest, magazines and my always fashionable friends. I’ve known since I was a little girl that working in fashion is my dream, and now I’m making it a reality.
I love to play with clothes and have fun with them. I try not to take fashion too seriously and just do what feels right to me. I would describe my style as playfully classic–I love clean lines and tailored pieces, but I also make sure that there is something unique about each outfit. My go-to pieces are loose fitting dresses or tight jeans and a loose top, and for fall I am always wearing boots or booties. I love to layer on the jewelry to add the finishing touch to all outfits. Most importantly, I believe in dressing in whatever makes you feel confident! When you feel good, you look good.
