Hello there Fashionista/os! My name is Miriam Yohannes and I am a junior at Kent State University studying fashion merchandising with a double minor in fashion media and marketing. Being at one of the top five fashion schools in the nation to study and practice something that I am passionate about is the greatest privilege.
This is my second semester as a Style Guru intern, and I have to admit… it is great to be back, ladies and gents! I had to put my Fashionista lookout glasses on pause as I was studying abroad the past four months in the beautiful, artistic city of Florence, Italy. I had the opportunity to meet new people from around the world, travel nine different countries throughout Europe and the Middle East, and gain a more in-depth perspective of the fashion world outside of American borders. It was by far the best investment of my life, not only for my career, but also for myself personally.
Throughout the year, I would have to say that my style has remained consistent, but a bit more on the casual side. I have been described and mainly influenced by the hip-hop couture styles of Balmain Paris, with a laid-back twist. Although, I have acknowledged quality over quantity by being inspired by sustainability through my study abroad experience. I choose outfits from my closet by selecting basic articles of clothing that have an effortless feature of being able to mix-and-match, along with the end goal of feeling like a confident, fierce woman. I embodied this in my outfit pictured above in the lovely city of Florence by including a basic cardigan, with a zipper detail to display a statement of chic and simplicity all in one. I adore the surfaced black crop top with the geometric-shape texture that is natural and easy to dress up or down. Pairing it with high waisted jeans, or a black leather skirt and platform ankle boots can absolutely bring the entire ensemble together.
This spring semester, I plan on spending my time working on Kent State Fashion School’s Annual Fashion Show as a Model Co-Manager for our April show event, as well as having my first real New York experience volunteering at New York Fashion Week in February! Mainly, I am found with headphones in my ears, dancing around in the streets, and experiencing new local foods around my hometown of Columbus and throughout my campus life at Kent.
I am extremely thrilled to be back with the CollegeFashionista team to continue my fashion exploration in my surroundings. I cannot wait to share my findings with all of you!
