Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Myriam Harvey and I am a nursing major enrolled at Oakton Community College. This is also my third semester being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. Even though my major isn’t the most fashionable I somehow always try to find a way to make my white lab coat and scrubs look chic.
I have always loved fashion and dressing up. My mom taught me at a young age to have fun with it and that the most important rule with fashion is to love what you’re wearing and to be confident not only in what you are wearing but also to be confident in yourself. At a young age everyone around me noticed my love for fashion, in fifth grade I got the superlative for, “most likely to be a future fashion diva.” Eleven years later I am now getting invites to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and to do collaborations with companies. I have been very blessed that every year I keep on growing when it comes to fashion.
My fashion taste has gotten a lot better from when I was younger. I no longer wear platform flip flops or put butterfly clips in my crimped hair (I promise you it was fashionable back in fourth grade). What hasn’t changed in all these years is that I don’t have a specific style, every morning when I open my closet it’s as if I am playing dress up. I dress according to my mood. One day I’ll wear a dress that is very bohemian and girly and the next day I’ll wear a Led Zeppelin shirt with a cute pair of jean shorts. Summer is by far my favorite season when it comes to trying new trends out because I can add more metallics and color to my every day wardrobe. Right now I am OBSESSED with festival fashion, I love shirts with fun details and cut outs or purses with fringe on them. I love to accessorize my outfit with a watch or wear a bright colored lipstick; I try to do something different every day. I am also really into unique prints and sequins.
Oscar Wilde said, “you can never be overdressed or overeducated.” For me summer will be filled with a lot of shopping bags, designer bags and bags underneath my eyes from all my late night study sessions that my pharmacology course will bring me. When I’m not at the mall or at the library I’m usually hanging out with friends! I am a huge fan of adventures and going to the beach. I also love going to music festivals. Can’t wait to see wait to see all the fashion and memories this summer will bring. I’m hoping to make this the most stylish summer yet.
