Hello, my loves! My name is Nada Sherdy and I’m an international student studying Communications at Syracuse University. I was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt (casual, I know) and I’m the first girl in my family that was given the opportunity to follow her dreams and go abroad for school! In my society, it’s completely unconventional for a girl to live by herself, let alone live in a different continent, halfway across the world. I worked really hard to get to where I am, though, so I already know I’m destined for great things! I’ve been following CollegeFashionista for about three years, now, but the idea that I would actually be writing for the website someday was completely unfathomable.
I’ve always been particularly interested in style and fashion, even though fashion didn’t really become a “thing” in Cairo until recently. Despite that, I managed to keep up with the top designers and all the latest worldwide trends as they evolved. I also follow a lot of Egyptian-bred designers that create clothes, bags and jewellery inspired by local culture and traditional aesthetics.
I would describe my personal style as eclectic yet very chill. My day-to-day outfits are hugely influenced by my culture, my mood and my music taste (as well as a few of my style icons: Rihanna, Vashtie and Zendaya). Most of the time, I’ll pick a certain aspect or piece of what I’m wearing, and make that the focal point. I love wearing unique pieces of jewelery, for example, or a distinctive pair of shoes that will just pull the whole outfit together.
I can’t wait to share my diversity and flourish with you all throughout this coming semester! Look forward to my posts each month!
