My name is Nagelly Graullera and I am currently a junior at California State University of Northridge. Ever since I was a kid without the constant daily life hassles of today, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion and in the medical field. At such a young age my mind was set on helping others while looking fabulous doing so and that has not changed one bit! At around seven years old, I recall myself doodling on lined paper to my coloring books as what it seemed to be “outfits” and dresses for my caricatures.
What made me want to get into the medical field? I was about 10 years old when I fully realized who I wanted to be as I got older and it always involved being a type of nurturer for the people. At first I was unsure of what kind of person would fit into that category other than a doctor, so I stuck with that until I accumulated more knowledge about this field. I was so overwhelmed by the variety of careers to choose from like registered nurses to surgeons to therapists. Honestly, it was not until my senior year in high school that I finally decided to approach oncology—the study of cancer—as my major for college. I was influenced by my grandpa who had become a victim of prostate cancer during this time which affected me dearly, but luckily he is now a cancer survivor.
Since oncology is what I am majoring in, I decided that I would also pursue a career in fashion but as my minor. On my free time I love to indulge in magazines I buy from time to time because let’s face it, real life can get a bit boring! After reading the articles, I get creative by cutting out certain pieces from outfits or pages that caught my attention and turning them into one mosaic-like piece on my closet door. I hope to gain more insight of the fashion industry as the years progress so that one day I can become a fashion or interior designer.
