My name is Natalie and I am so excited to be back writing for my second semester with CollegeFashionista! I currently attend San Diego State University in the beautiful city of San Diego, however this summer I will be writing to you all the way from northern California, and then I will be finish off the summer reporting from San Diego.
Being given the opportunity to write for CollegeFashionista has truly been a wonderful experience. Not only have I fallen deeper in love with fashion, I have also discovered a passion for writing.
In addition to writing for CollegeFashionista, I have expanded my skills and knowledge by closely studying numerous fashion related books and magazines. For a long time, I have loved Lauren Conrad, and the evolution of her style over the years. More recently, I have come to love Garance Doré’s book titled Love, Style, Life which explores the difference between the style of Americans and the French. She even touches on her idea of staple pieces to have in your closet, and items that last a lifetime. I for one, completely agree that you first need a foundation of essential items in order to truly build your style. From there you can go in any direction.
My leisure moments are usually spent hanging out with my best friends, online shopping for hours, or dreaming about traveling. Aside from one day working in the fashion industry, I have also always wanted to travel to Europe. Both the beauty of the countries and each culture there truly amazes me, but what’s even better is seeing the difference in style from country to country. Although asking Fashionistas/os on college campuses about their own personal styles is insightful, asking someone abroad can bring a whole new perspective to the fashion world and to the evolution of style.
While on this subject…I feel that my personal style seems to always be changing. I don’t know if it’s a result of my changing personality or influenced by the changing trends, but what I do know is that I always feel my wardrobe must be updated by incorporating new pieces with my existing items.
I love the look I’m wearing pictured above because each piece is a great staple for anyone’s wardrobe, and can be styled so many different ways. While not casual enough for a simple day of just going to class, the look is perfect for a night out or an important event. These Paige Premium Denim Jeans are my absolute favorite and a staple in my closet. These B.P booties from Nordstrom are another favorite, and seem to always complete a look. Finally, the Astr blouse is a great item, due to the high-low cut which truly completes the look. Together, the outfit makes me feel as though I’m on a runway, ready to accomplish my day. Who wouldn’t want to feel that way? Let’s make this a great semester!
