Hi there Chicagoans and readers everywhere! My name is Natalie Reehl and I attend DePaul University in the College of Communication. I’m so excited to be on the CollegeFashionista team, and I can’t wait to share all my favorite trends and tips with you.
As the weather warms up, the layers start shedding which means dresses, dresses and more dresses. This morning, I picked out my favorite jersey-material dress, a black skater dress covered in neon flowers, to match the sunshine and blooming trees outside. Especially on a Monday, I find myself picking out eye-catching colors to perk my mood and give me more energy throughout the work day. But I always have a little bit of black thrown in to balance it out!
My personal style tends to be “city-chic,” and I am not afraid to rock dark colors year round even if it’s ninety degrees out. Ripped skinny jeans and a T-shirt is my go-to look on the weekends and usually for class I’ll wear leggings and sandals with a tunic to stay cool (and focused on the lesson instead of pulling at a crop top). Living in the city is all about movement and being able to run to catch the train, so the trick is to look classy while being comfortable, hence the floral dress and my absolute favorite boots which I own in three different colors. The beautiful hardware on the boots complements my necklace, which adds a bit of fun and weight to an otherwise simple outfit.
Don’t be afraid to play with color even if you’re usually monochromatic like me! Summer means freedom to amp up your wardrobe, even with something as simple as a necklace or mixing metals.
