My name is Natalie, I have just completed my freshman year at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and I can honestly tell you that being in Manhattan has encouraged me to be myself and embrace my own personal style more than ever.
Even though I often find myself wearing all black, (like a true New Yorker) I incorporate my own style into each of my everyday outfits. If I want to spice up my attire for the day, I’ll add my favorite pair of strappy laced heels to take my look from day-to-night. Also, since the weather in New York City is totally unpredictable, I often carry my favorite cropped leather jacket with me just in case I get cold (yes, even in the summer)! This might be the Jersey girl in me talking, but my favorite way to dress up an outfit is with something animal print. Animal print is to me the easiest way to turn plain garb into a head-turning ensemble.
Growing up in New Jersey, I’d often visit New York City with my family as a child. I vividly remember walking down Fifth Avenue during Christmas time, admiring the window displays in each designers’ storefront. Of course I had fantasies of living like Eloise at the Plaza, sipping afternoon tea and taking casual strolls around Central Park in a puffy (faux) fur coat. However, the true inspiration for my style comes from the diversity and melting pot of cultures that you find in and around Manhattan, and now here I am.
I’m so excited to start summer 2016 as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and report on the latest trends from my fellow fashion fiends! See you soon!
