Hey there, fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Nia Thomas but I prefer to go by Nia Imani. I am so excited to start this journey with CollegeFashionista. I am a junior at Temple University, studying advertising with a track in media planning. I currently work as a sales associate at Nordstrom in King Of Prussia, PA and I am a social media specialist and assistant event planner for What’s the Tea. I was always interested in fashion and beauty as a child and my obsession has grown over the years.
I consider my style to be simple but cute. You could never go wrong with a cute T-shirt, ripped jeans, and colorful flats. Although I am simple, I do enjoy labels as well, but I don’t think that labels are what make the outfit. Due to my height, I was very interested in modeling when I was younger and all I did was watch fashion and modeling competitions on television. I always knew that I would be involved in fashion some way, some how.
My favorite thing to do when I was younger was to dress up in my mother’s heels and dresses and take pictures of myself as if I was on a photoshoot set in NY or LA.
As I got older, I began to think of a career path and the only things that really interested me were business and communications related. I am very shy, that’s the reason I never took modeling serious or did anything like that, so I knew that if I wanted to be in the fashion or entertainment industry that I had to be behind the scenes.
My major during my freshman and sophomore year was human resource management, but as I started to enter the classes for my major, I knew that HRM was not for me. I did some research and saw that advertising and media planning would be a better career path for me because I’m interested in social media, event planning, and brand management.
I hope to get my bachelor’s degree in advertising in 2017 and look for an office space for my event planning company, SimplySocial Events by Nia Imani.
In this look, I am layering a DKNY bubble jacket over an Elodie army green jacket.  Underneath, I am wearing a Forever 21 black shirt and Joe’s medium-washed skinny jeans. My bracelets are from Primark and the Ugg booties are from Nordstrom.
Stay tuned for my posts this semester and don’t forget to give each article a #RAD!
