Hi fellow fashion lovers! My name is Nicole, and I’m so excited to be back for another semester here writing, and now editing, for CollegeFashionista! I had a lot of fun last semester sharing some great outfits from around University of Missouri, and can’t wait to see what the summer in Columbia holds.
My style has evolved over the years, but I can now confidently say that my style cannot be defined by a single word. Honestly, if I had to describe it, I could only tell you that I simply buy and wear anything that I genuinely love. This includes things that are trending today or things that were trending decades ago, things that fit or things that are three sizes too big, it doesn’t matter. This year I have been through a lot of change, discovered a lot about myself and met a lot of really cool new people and I think all of that has definitely had an impact on my confidence in what I wear.
Although I have staple pieces in my wardrobe that come from a multitude of different styles, I have a tendency to gravitate towards more retro and vintage styles when shopping and styling my outfits. This comes from my love of thrift and vintage shopping; I love the hunt for one-of-a-kind pieces and the chance to turn a piece of clothing into my own. I can thank my mom for teaching me how to find the best pieces in a thrift store from an early age and teaching me that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
My outfit today includes two of my favorite most recent thrifted pieces: a vintage skinny scarf and denim jumper. Denim with raw hems have been really trendy this season, so I decided to cut the bottom of my jumper off, and I tied my scarf around my neck as a choker and let the ends hang down my back for a unique touch. Underneath my jumper, I added a knit crop top with a geometric cutout neckline to add some more interesting detail. Then, to give my outfit a grungier feel, I paired this outfit with my black Dr. Martens. I think this outfit was the perfect mix of feminine and grunge, and is also casual enough to wear to class, out running errands, or even to wear out at night.
I hope you guys enjoyed this look and check back for more looks that I find this summer!
