Hello all Fashionista/os! My name is Parker Damato and I am a sophomore at New York University majoring in Media, Culture and Communications and minoring in Studio Art. That was definitely a better opener than I usually do; normally I say “Hi I’m Parker, like Washington Square Park-er”, or people respond with “like Peter Parker.” Unfortunately, I am neither an iconic New York arch or a famous comic book hero with spider senses.
I was born in Brooklyn and raised in Washington D.C. I’ve grown up on thrifted jackets, hand-me down clothes (from my older brother) and clothing swapped trades. Being stylish doesn’t have to be expensive or hard. To be completely honest, I am pretty lazy. Fashion and being stylish has to be pretty effortless for me. I believe being stylish doesn’t have to be hard, it can be found in the details of an outfit. I wear pretty simplistic and basic clothing, but all it takes is noticing the details in an outfit; whether it be varying textures of a monochromatic look, colorful or bold statement jewelry or a killer pair of shoes.
Very rarely will you catch me not wearing black; some way, somehow I always work a bit of black into my outfits. What can I say, I am a creature of habit and I like what I like. During the summer, wearing black tends to be a bit trickier since black traps heat. To balance out the black, heat-trapping shirts, my staple this summer has been bralettes; I live in bralettes. They are incredibly comfortable and breathable for those hot, humid D.C. and New York summers.
In this outfit, I’m wearing a detailed strappy back bralette with a loose low-back black tank top to stay cool and comfortable. The black tank top is a bit cropped so I paired it with a pair of high-waisted denim shorts that used to be my mom’s and I cut into shorts. For shoes, I chose black, cutout ankle booties because I’m pretty short so any shoe that’s comfy and can give me a boost is my best friend.
When I’m not running around the East Village for school, I spend my free time roaming the city for new hideaway spots or geocaching. I love exploring the city and finding new places that aren’t the stereotypical touristy spots. I can’t wait to show you my favorite spots in the city paired with amazing and unique Fashionista/o’s looks.
