Hi everyone, my name is Phuong Tran, but I also go by Waylie (which is my English name that was given to me when I first moved to the United States). I am currently attending California State University, Los Angeles as a fashion design student. My goal in design is to become a trend-setter who will offer unique and innovative creations in the industry.
I’ve always had a strong passion for fashion and have been pursuing it for many years, ever since my grandmother let me touch her sewing machine when I was little. Born and raised in Vietnam, a beautiful country in Southeast Asia, I came to the United States as an exchange student when I was 16. I consider it as my advantage, as I acquire both Eastern and Western cultures, as well as their different sense of fashion.
On the other hand, due to the fact that English was not my first language, I had a very difficult time in writing and expressing my thoughts, especially in explaining my creations to others. As a result, becoming a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista could be considered a great challenge for myself. Hopefully with all your great support, I will be able to overcome my fear in order to become a great writer and designer.
As a student who is always busy with school and work, my regular daily style is very simple. I usually wear something that I can easily move around in such as a T-shirt, jeans and a pair of sneakers. However, I love dressing up (not just myself, but also others such as friends and family members) whenever I have a chance. On various occasions, I tend to mix and match the clothes I already have in my closet instead of buying new ones, which allows me to experiment many different styles every time as well as challenging my limit of creativity.
Recently, I have been designing and making my own clothes, not only to develop my skills as a designer, but also to create an unique and special identity for myself. I am very friendly and outgoing, so everyone is welcome to check out my social media platforms as well as send me a friend request. I am looking forward to a RAD semester with all of you guys and remember, in the words of Coco Chanel: “Every day is a fashion show and the world is your runway.”
