Hello fellow Fashionistas/o! My name is Rachael Arula and I am embarking on my senior year of college at Eastern Michigan University. I am a double major in Journalism and Fashion Merchandising. This is my first time writing for CollegeFashionista, and I couldn’t be more excited! This is right down my ally for what I would potentially like for a job/career.
At a young age I was introduced into the world of fashion. Before school every week when I was just about seven years old, my mother would lay out three different outfit choices, and from there I would pick out the one I liked and I wore it to school. I continued this trend, only this time I would pick out my own clothing! This is where my love for clothes grew and then developed into buying shoes, accessories and jewelry.
I grew up in a rather busy suburb, where the fashion in high school was UGG boots, The North Face jackets and Coach purses. So of course everyone is desperately trying to fit in with this fad; meanwhile, I’m buying whatever I think is stylish to me—combat boots, skinny jeans and Indie statement jewelry.
So far in my college career, the greatest adventure I went on was studying abroad in Italy—I would go back in a heartbeat! They are very fashion-forward, and the styles appealed to me. That brings me to my style…I really don’t fit into one specific category. What I wear depends on the type of mood I’m in, anything from grunge to plaid or preppy to athletic wear. An outfit that makes me feel the most confident would have to be high-waisted skinny jeans with a cute crop top and a bold necklace.
For my ideal look I wore denim skinny jeans with a retro red crop top, making sure to tie the outfit together with a pair of brown gladiator sandals. I also obsessively have to know the time to make sure I am not late for class, appointments, meetings, etc. This simple white watch adds a dash of bling to complete my look.
I am thrilled to begin this semester of fashion and writing (my two favorite things)!
