STYLE GURU BIO: Rachel Gross

My name is Rachel Gross. I enjoy long walks through twilight lit nights and an ungodly amount of coffee. Yes, I am that girl who ventures to Starbucks multiple times a day but please keep that between us. I am a junior transfer student attending Brown University and concentrating in English literature. As a girl born and raised in Florida, I am already falling in love with the season changes of the northeast, the quietness a soft snow brings and the excuse I now have to buy yet another sweater.

This is my first semester joining the ranks of Style Gurus. I have always had a passion for fashion (unexpected rhyming moments which cause the English undergrad bliss) and am so excited to encounter the fashionable students who cross my campus. Around my teen years, I began diving into the fashion world which, yes, did include both a gothic and barbie phase… Who hasn’t experienced that though? My high school years consisted of regulated school uniforms five days a week, but the weekends were mine to try that newest fad, throw on those bell bottoms and platforms or overalls and chunky knit sweaters. I loved those little moments of feeling so accomplished after creating that great outfit. To this day, the feeling of pride one gets after putting on a fashionable outfit is something I crave. And I wholeheartedly believe in the power of wearing heels to make you feel killer in the best way.

So what exactly is my style? This question is unbelievably hard to answer as I feel it changes on the daily. Somedays I find myself reaching towards the bohemian wear while the next finds me wanting to throw on that grunge flannel and destroyed jeans. But I will always describe my style as feminine. I crave the heels or girly flats and the lipstick. I love florals and lace. I want the slightly softer edge to any outfit.

For the look above, I used the Florida sun and the New England layering look to make an outfit fit for a day of clothing shopping (yes, more clothes). A turtleneck dress is a perfect piece to throw on when you want warmth and comfort while also looking put together. I threw on a colored jacket to add a bit of flair and an edgy pop while the thin belt gives an otherwise shifted dress a nice shape.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this and getting to know a bit about me! I am so excited to be a part of this organization and bring fashion bits and bobs right to you. Make sure to follow my social media to get updates on what I find next in the fashion world. Until next time, beauties!
