Hi, fellow Fashionistas! Arriving at the realization that my aspirations to channel my inner Blair Waldorf will never be socially acceptable, I am currently a freshman at Mercyhurst University studying Fashion Merchandising. I am a dreamer, eager explorer, visually driven, strong minded, young woman who is still determining who she is and what her place is in this perplexing, yet captivating world. A clothing addict, who loves the whirling world of fashion, photography, watching hours upon hours of reality TV and–yes, don’t laugh– listening to Justin Bieber. I find it fascinating to be consistently exposed to various opinions and I enjoy the value of learning new things. My mind is constantly filled with new ideas, solutions and an array of endless possibilities. I like to think I am alluringly and completely lost in my own mind.
Torn between an extensive shopping addiction with the ever so shrinking reality of my dwindling college student budget has been a thrilling challenge. My style varies anywhere from Lauren Conrad and her classic frilly mild calf tulle skirts to one of my personal faves a statement oversized blazer and my go to over-the-knee boots, stretching even as far as fringe and boho-chic wide-brimmed hats. I’ve come to the realization that I don’t really have a specific style so when people ask me “how would you describe your style?” I usually answer with “it’s ME.” What I wear really depends on my mood, some days I’m feeling rather bold and others the thought of getting out of my bed is a pure nightmare.
Being a Fashion major, I am constantly inspired by the eclectic world around me. Whether it’s someone passing by in the dining hall, the iconic clock in the center of campus, or the latest spread in Vogue, I am always looking for new ways to manipulate my wardrobe and use the pieces I have in innovative ways. You will never catch me wearing the same thing twice, so it’s a good thing I have double the wardrobe thanks to my best friend who is also a Fashion major and has incredible style herself.
Having fun with fashion is what makes it so unique. True style and arbitrary laws do not (well they shouldn’t) go together. Getting dressed should be fun. Everything we wear says something about who we are, from the collar on a shirt, to the heel and height of a great pair of shoes. For such reasons I enjoy pieces that make big statements. I love anything that can transform an outfit and make me stand out from the crowd.
I am very excited to be able to share such a strong passion of mine and be able to give you a glimpse into the world of fashion around my home away from home at Mercyhurst. Hope you enjoy reading and seeing my perspective on fashion. May it inspire you to develop your own sense of style and most importantly to have fun with fashion!
