Hello there, dolls! My name is Rachel Kaplan, and I’m a sophomore at Kent State University studying fashion merchandising, public relations and marketing. I can’t wait to get started as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and share my love of fashion with you.
While my body is usually in Ohio, my heart and head are always in New York City! There’s nothing I love more than strolling through Central Park, discovering charming brunch spots, shopping in SoHo and working in the city. This past summer, I worked for an apparel company in Times Square, and the experience was truly magical. I’m dreaming about when I get to go back.
When I’m not in class or strutting around New York City, I can be found cyber-shopping at Free People, Nordstrom, Madewell or Urban Outfitters. Being on a college budget, I definitely try to always find the best deals at these retailers. I’m more of a save than splurge kind of girl, unless it’s a beautiful and classic piece such as a great handbag or pair of shoes. I’m also frequently seen reading a fashion magazine or novel or watching Netflix. Go check out Dior and I because it’s an amazing film.
After living in the city for two months, my style definitely made a change from all over the place to sporty-chic. My go-to shoe since then has most definitely been Stan Smiths, and I can’t wait to purchase more fashion-forward athletic footwear. I’m normally seen wearing a soft shirt and distressed denim or black leggings, paired with the trendy sneakers. But I am also a huge fan of the ‘70s trend and bohemian style.
When looking into my closet, you will see mostly neutral and earth tones and lots of black. I definitely have a shoe obsession and a closet full of boots and heels (the perks of working at a shoe store). I’ve been told I need to wear more flats (other than my Stan Smiths), but where’s the fun in that when you’re on the shorter side and don’t need to walk from SoHo to Central Park?
Some of my favorite style stars include Olivia Palermo, Kate Bosworth, Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. I also frequently check the blogs WhoWhatWear, Sincerely, Jules and The Blonde Salad. There’s so much by which to be inspired!
