Hello my fellow fashion lovers! My name is Rachel Perry. This will be my third semester as a Style Guru, and I couldn’t be more excited. This semester, I will be starting my senior year as a fashion merchandising major at the University of Nebraska. Lincoln, Nebraska, is a hidden gem of the Midwest. It’s filled with beautiful buildings, cute coffee shops, and some seriously cool style. However, I credit my love of fashion to being born and raised in the great city of Los Angeles. The street style there is amazing and it pushes me to take fashion risks every day.
I have been in love with fashion since an early age. However, fashion did not always love me back. I used to rock ponchos, star-shaped hoop earrings, and cargo pants with sequin shirts. Today I would describe my style as minimal, classic, edgy, trendy, and everything in between. I love having the ability to express myself through my outfit choices.
My style changes daily. Some days I am feeling sophisticated and want to wear a blazer. Other days I’m rocking an edgy pair of ripped jeans. On days when comfort is my main priority, I will usually gravitate towards a sweatshirt and loose pair of cotton pants. A teddy bear coat and a pair of black boots keep the outfit feeling put together and fashion forward. My signature is a pair of black boots because they go with virtually every outfit.
I draw my fashion inspiration from runway trends and street style photographs. I constantly stalk websites like Who What Wear, Vogue, and Man Repeller to keep up with the latest news. I love to take runway trends and bring them to the streets. Fashion should be an experiment and not be taken too seriously. The streets are my runway. I believe that there are no rules in fashion, and you should just wear what makes you feel the best.
I can’t wait to show you all the rad style in Lincoln and how to make runway trends wearable. Have a great semester!
