Hello fashionable people and thanks for sticking around for my third semester as a Style Guru! As a self-proclaimed style scout before this internship and now officially one thanks to CollegeFashionista, walking around campus is no simple task. I keep my eyes peeled every time I leave my apartment to try and find fashion in even the simplest ways: cute knee socks paired with some typical Hunter Boots on rainy days, a sleek leather jacket and combat boot combo for chilly days and the ever-challenging task of making spirit wear look chic that only few can accomplish. Bloomington is filled with Fashionistas and Fashionistos from all walks of life and style, and I can’t wait to see what ensembles stand out this semester.
Almost daily, I ask myself the million dollar question: “What would I define my style as?” and every single time I tell myself that putting a label on what I wear would only take the magic out of picking out my outfit every day. Every time I feel like I need to define it to someone who asks what my style is, and when I say “minimalistic” or “boho” or “hipster” I immediately want to put the words back in my mouth. I want the freedom to be minimalistic, boho and hipster all in the same day, or be none of those things for a week or be boho for a month straight then never again.
The beauty of our age of Instagram and blogging is that I can simply scroll through my phone for a few minutes and get weeks worth of outfit inspiration. I’m currently obsessed with tying things around my neck (as a result of some serious Man Repeller stalking), whether it’s silk scarves, choker necklaces or bows like the one I’m wearing here. I think it’s the perfect alternative to jewelry, especially in the wintertime when you want to keep as covered as possible. This dress is a prized find from the depths of Forever 21, and I love how the wide sleeves and hem make it a dream to spin around in.
Last but not least, one of my treasured pieces: velvet booties. Yes, velvet. If I had to pick between these booties and most of my wardrobe in a fire, I would pick these almost every time. Velvet booties are life changing and if I can only accomplish only thing this semester, it would be convincing you to go buy a pair of these babies. You won’t regret it.
