Hello CollegeFashionista readers! My name is Rachel Zydyk and this is my first semester as a Style Guru!
I am a senior at Temple University majoring in marketing and minoring in management information systems. Although I went the business route for my college studies, I have tried to immerse myself in the fashion industry as much as I could for as long as I can remember. My history projects in high school were on people like Coco Chanel and Marie Antoinette, I treated Fashion Week’s like national holidays and I was devoted to reading any fashion blog and magazine I could get my hands on.
I get a ton of inspiration for my everyday style from movies and street style. I love classic ’60s and ’70s actresses’ style, like Audrey Hepburn and Jane Birkin. The fashion in movies like Moonrise Kingdom or Breakfast at Tiffany’s make the films all the more enjoyable for me. As for street style, my ultimate idol is Alexa Chung. She effortlessly reworks classics and sparked my affinity for stripes, Chelsea boots and peter pan collars.
The energy and creativity of being in a city is almost tangible and spending my college years in Philly has had an effect on my style evolution for that reason. I now gravitate more towards edgier outerwear pieces that hold up to the cold weather and sneakers are non-negotiable for walking all over the city and campus. My ideal uniform consists of high-wasted skinny jeans, sneakers and a leather jacket.
I am so excited to a part of the CollegeFashionista team and to share more of my campus’ style with you all!
