My name is Raquel Tucker, but most people have a nickname for me (Raq, Rock, Rockie, Racks etc.). I am a senior at St. John’s University in Queens, New York and I am pursing my bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in fashion. This will be my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru.
As cliche as this may sound, I have loved fashion for as long as I can remember. I have always admired what fashion can do for someone. People are able to find a sense of peace with fashion because it is able to provide the superpower of self-expression within oneself.
I am thrilled to be able to learn another aspect of the fashion industry. Through CollegeFashionista, I believe I will be able to learn about the editorial and writing aspect of the fashion world. With this knowledge, I can apply what I learn here to my future career in fashion.
Although I admire all aspects of the fashion industry, I am focused specifically on public relations in fashion. I had the opportunity to be an intern at Williamson PR & Showroom in SoHo and I learned so much in my two semesters of interning. I witnessed what goes on behind the scenes in order to create the big picture that everyone else witnesses.
My personal style is very versatile. With being originally from California, my style has a natural chill factor to it, but after having gone to school in New York for two years my style has become a mixture between the two coasts.
In New York, having a simple, button-down, breathable shirt is a staple in your closet. It is easy to dress it up or down and super comfy. By pairing this shirt with a California staple, the cut-off denim short (either thrifted or bought), this outfit can be worn almost anywhere. Perfect for running errands or catching a drink with the girls on a hot summer night. Add a pop of color with a pair of sandals.
I am so excited & blessed to have gotten this opportunity and I hope whoever reads my articles finds something they can take away with them. Can’t wait to share this semester with all you Fashionistas/os!
