Hello everyone! My name is Raveena and I am overjoyed to start my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. This fall, I will be a freshman at Rutgers University majoring in marketing. Ultimately, I would love to have a career in the business side of the fashion industry. What interests me most about marketing is the way visuals can convey a feeling to the consumer which leads them to purchase a product. I’m excited to enhance my knowledge of both business and fashion with CollegeFashionista.
My interest in fashion started from a young age. Ever since I can remember, I’ve always made it a priority to be wearing the “newest thing”—whether it was a jean skort or a branded Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirt. Over time, I have shed those juvenile fashion indulgences and now I have been able to develop my own personal style.
What I love most about fashion is versatility. One day I’ll dress completely girly and the next day I’ll opt for athleisure. When styling outfits, it’s easy to change the overall look with an accessory or a pair of shoes. Usually, I gravitate towards wearing darker colors but one day I might wake up and feel like wearing bright colors and that’s completely okay. When it comes to fashion we all have so much room to explore our own style and mix things up.
When choosing what outfit to wear for my Style Guru Bio, I kept racking my brain for the look that is the most “me”. As I said before, I’m all about exploring different styles, making this quite a difficult process. I finally decided a simpler look was the best way to go. I chose a chiffon tank top and distressed jeans and dressed up the look with a pair of heeled sandals. I also wore a lace halter bralette underneath and layered a long necklace over the tank. An outfit like this is perfect for spending the day shopping or out with friends. This outfit is the epitome of versatility; you could easily throw on a different pair of shoes or different accessories and have a whole other look.
I can’t wait to start exploring college fashion with the rest of the Style Gurus. As a freshman, this semester will be filled with tons of changes for me: changes in school, changes in season and of course, changes in outfits. But as Yves Saint Laurent said, “Fashions fade, style is eternal”.
