STYLE GURU BIO: Rayno Kivo

Hey everyone!

My name is Rayno Kivo and I am a sophomore at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I plan on studying marketing with minors in psychology and art history in the hopes of one day working in public relations in the fashion industry. I grew up in a suburb outside of Los Angeles, where creativity basically pours out of the sidewalks and into the streets. Growing up in such a fashion-forward community really inspired my desire to pursue clothing. I’ve learned it is so much more than a daily outfit. It is a confidence booster, an expression of personality and an art form.

This is my second semester being a part of the CollegeFashionista team and I am beyond excited to continue my journey as a Style Guru. Going to school 3,000 miles away from home really made me appreciate all the different styles and effort people put into their daily looks. There are so many different types of people who each contain a unique persona and style. I plan on finding these people and sharing them with all of you!

My style ranges day to day but normally falls under minimalistic, urban wear. I tend to stick with neutral and darker colors. More often then not, you’ll find me rocking all black or something close to it. I like to be simple without being boring and comfy nonetheless. I love anything oversized and ’90s-inspired trends. Pictured above, I paired a turtleneck from Aerie with a leather jacket from Urban Outfitters (I would buy everything from that store if I could). The leather jacket contrasts the soft sweater and gives it an edgier look. I matched that with deep blue skinnies from a local boutique and suede ankle booties from H&M to complete the look. I added subtle accessories for a pop of color. My nails are a dark emerald green and my earrings are pale teal and gold. These small details really brighten up the look in an unexpected way. All these pieces come together to create a simple but edgy outfit.

I am looking forward to tackling East Coast trends from a West Coast perspective and to really discovering all the fashion world has to offer! I hope my articles serve as inspiration for you to show off your style because fashion is art; fashion is you. Cheers to a new semester and to new trends!
