Hola, fashion lovers! My name is Rebecca J. Cubero and I am officially a junior at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. Public Relations and Advertising is my major here, but I am also a fashion student at a small institute nearby. I first became an intern at CollegeFashionista this summer and I am super excited to be returning as a Style Guru this fall.
Fashion has forever been my gateway to self-expression. Whether it be assisting runway shows, reading the latest style news or designing a new attire… you will always find me somehow involved with this beautiful industry. I am a complete island girl, total beach bum and lover of everything Caribbean; but I also have a passion for the city. That’s why New York has become my second home and you’ll surely find me roaming around the city from time to time during the year. On a different note, activities that involve gastronomy, performing arts and tourism are at the top of my list of hobbies. Meanwhile, my list of obsessions is mostly comprised of white-on-black polka-dot prints, jumpsuits, trendy sneakers, anything backless and, of course, Beyoncé.
Coming from a place where there’s summer all year round, I have developed an eye for colorful prints and light fabrics. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a complete sucker for structure, simplicity and neutrals. I also love getting a bit of style inspiration from the guy’s side of the closet now and then, going for a bit less feminine silhouettes and I believe the look you see above is a good example of it. I started with some blue Topshop overalls and a white tube-top underneath. I then added my favorite shoes at the moment, a pair of white metallic Dr. Martens sneakers. A definite must-have when it comes to living on an island, is a nice hat that’ll shade you rain or shine. Today, I’m sporting a black felt matador hat from Urban Outfitters. I’m a firm believer in the importance of accessorizing so for this time around I chose multiple silver rings and a charmed pewter necklace to compliment my ensemble.
I really look forward to join my loves for photography and writing in order to continue to show you all the amazing style I witness around me day to day. The fashion devotees here at the University of Puerto Rico have a lot to share with the world and I am honored to be the medium that will make it happen.
