Howdy! My name is ReDell Atkinson and I am a senior at the Drake-endorsed University of Kentucky. I am majoring in merchandising, apparel and textiles and my aspirations are a bit all over the map; some days I want to be a stylist, some days an event planner, some days a buyer but most days Beyoncé. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for the illustrious CollegeFashionista, and words can’t begin to describe how excited I am to be a part of such a classy team.
I’m originally from the lovely city of Williamsburg, Virginia and moved to Lexington, Kentucky to attend school and be closer to my family. These past three years have been adventurous to say the least, but I wouldn’t change them for anything. I’ve made amazing friends who keep me sane, I travel frequently which keeps my mind open, and I have my fashion which keeps me passionate.
I’m 5’2’’, crazy talkative, high energy and have a slight Napoleon complex, so of course I love to stand out and be noticed. Clothing has always been a way for me to express myself. Whether it be the time I wore all black for a week when Michael Jackson died during the summer before I started high school or when I returned from South Korea this summer and was convinced I was one-fourth Korean. People can always tell what’s going on with me based on what I’m wearing.
As a young female in fashion, I pride myself on being versatile and a non-conformist. I love wearing dresses and heels and getting all dolled up, but don’t let the frill fool you. I can throw on a pair of Nike Air Jordan’s and a bomber jacket and look just as fly. I wear my clothes. They don’t wear me.
