Nice to meet y’all, my name is Renee. I’m Cajun French through and through (and ever so proud of it, can you tell?). I am a senior, studying Writing, Literature and Publishing at Emerson College. This internship is the prefect segue of my professional and personal interests.
I grew up surrounded by grand, southern ladies. Pictures of my Mawmaw (grandmother) in pearls and gloves shopping on Canal St. and stories from my Great Great Aunt Line (who was a teenager in the ’20s; yes, she lived to be over 100!) forever shaped my ideas of what it means to be stylish. I didn’t really get to explore fashion until I was in high school. I wore a uniform for most of my life and I love the freedom college gives me to express myself.
I find it hard to describe my style, but fortunately my best friend sums it up quite well as “ladylike class with a hint of edge.” I love clothing with a vintage inspiration. I could wear Jane Martin’s yellow dress everyday for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. Well probably not, but goodness I do love a good shirtwaist dress.
These pants are the most wonderful pants in the entire world. I feel like Katharine Hepburn every time I wear them. I paired them with this sleeveless top to keep cool in the heat we’ve been dealing with. The hat is to protect my face from the sun. I can’t be the only one who burns instead of tans. I love items that can be fashionable and functional. I don’t really like bracelets but I love watches. This one is exceptionally pretty with blush leather and a mother of pearl face. Collars and red lipstick make me happy.
I’m a firm believer in the power of fashion. Clothing can and should make you happy. I know that it lifts my spirit every morning. Come back again next month and see what is making me smile.
