Hello! My name is Rilka Noel, and I’m a junior studying French and Art at the University of Notre Dame. I’m really excited to be part of the Style Guru team, and share some cool outfits and inspiration with you guys!
My interest in fashion started when I was pretty young (as an ElementarySchoolFashionista, perhaps?). My mother and my grandmother are very conscious of how they express themselves through their personal style and when I was young, they encouraged me to express myself in the same way. I would rifle through my mother’s immense collection of clothing in awe of the outfit possibilities I could create; that’s such a preteen feeling, isn’t it? There’s that moment of discovery followed by an immediate obsession. Even though the word “passion” seems overused and corny, that’s what fashion became and that’s what it remains!
I would describe my personal style as ‘90s-Mom-Who-Drives-The-Carpool-But-Still-Catches-The-Wilco-Concert. It can also vary between Early-2000s-Hip-Hop-Back-Up-Dancer and sporty goth. To put it succinctly, no matter what I’m feeling that day, I tend to go for a look that has a relatively simple silhouette. I like to experiment often, but I stay very true to the key basics in my closet. For example, I have a pair of perfect denim trousers, loads of iconic white T-shirts and the classic jean jacket. These items run my wardrobe, and I love to build and layer to create my aesthetic; you know what they say, “With good basics anything is possible!”
When I’m not figuring out what I’m going to wear next, you can find me kicking around a soccer ball or watching a House Hunters marathon. I can’t wait to show you guys what Notre Dame is wearing this fall!
