Oscar Wilde once said, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”
This is, without a doubt, my favorite Oscar Wilde quote. As a fashion-obsessed undergraduate student, I feel as if it is particularly poignant as I begin street style blogging.
My name is Sabrina Farmer and I am thrilled to be joining the CollegeFashionista team. I am a sophomore English major and Japanese minor from Abington, Pennsylvania. I am currently studying at the illustrious Howard University in our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Hopefully, writing at CollegeFashionista will motivate me to update my personal blog, Atlantic Fade, and also possibly start a YouTube channel.
Attending one of the most fashionable universities in America has certainly influenced my personal style. I have never necessarily considered myself to be a “loud” dresser, but coming to the Mecca—as Howard is often called—makes you step your game up. These days, I tend to gravitate towards statement necklaces, dramatic hats and vivacious lip colors in order to offset my wardrobe’s admittedly neutral and monochromatic color palette.
I have always had a complicated relationship with fashion. In middle school, I vacillated between being scholarly and sartorially-minded, all without realizing that I could be both. Years have past and I have since integrated my two loves (books and Balenciaga). Post college, I have every intention of putting my English degree and fledgling knowledge of Japanese and Korean to use in a fashion-related career.
Documenting the sensational street style at a fashion-forward university, such as Howard, will undoubtedly be challenging, but also fun, informative and eye opening. I can’t wait to share my snapshots of #BisonStyle with you all!
