Hi guys! My name is Sadaf Islamzada and I am a senior at George Mason University. I just recently declared my major to Information Systems and Operations Management as I finished up my junior year. It was a big leap for me, going from studying Biology to a more technical field.
I am the oldest of three kids, so I have some responsibility added onto my plate. But it’s great! I love my little munchkins. Growing up and gaining new experiences, I learned a lot about myself. I discovered that I love fashion and style towards the end of high school. My friends used to call me an “in-closet Fashionista” because I had rare and eclectic pieces that I’d wear to school once in a while. That is when I realized that I should pursue fashion and get myself more involved in the industry.
It wasn’t until college that I gained the confidence to wear different outfits and experiment with looks. I took part in GMU’s Fashion Society and held a position on the Executive Board for three years, bringing awareness and self-expression to students on campus.
I applied for Teen Vogue Fashion University during the fall of 2013 and was accepted into the weekend program. It was extremely fun! I was able to meet so many people with the same drive and passion for the fashion industry, as well as meet jewelry and clothing designers such as Thakoon Panichgul and Christian Siriano. One year later, I won a DKNY contest through Teen Vogue and had my picture featured on an advertisement in the magazine! Both were such amazing experiences.
I looked for more opportunities to dip my feet into the fashion world and landed a position as the Fashion Outreach intern for Coming of Faith, an online forum for free expression. After completing that internship, I came across CollegeFashionista and hoped to get the summer intern position, which I did (and I love it!).
I have extreme wanderlust; the passion to travel is real. I have taken several trips out of the country to places such as Turkey, Germany, Saudi Arabia and the Caribbean. I am super excited for my trip to Australia in December. I enjoy learning about different cultures, customs and fashion through my travels.
I don’t necessarily have a specific category I fall under when it comes to my outfits, but I do have certain pieces that I love to wear: my Mickey Mouse necklace, a watch and any type of hat, like beanies or a floppy hat.
In this picture I’m wearing a blue maxi sundress with a coral colored statement necklace to make the outfit pop. I wanted to keep it simple but look dressed up for the occasion.
I hope this helps you learn a bit about me! I’ll be sharing more of my looks throughout the semester as well as any of the stylish Fashionistas/os I see around the George Mason University campus.
