Hello fashion fanatics! My name is Sam Butler and I am an upcoming junior at Ohio University majoring in retail merchandising & fashion product development. This is my first semester joining the CollegeFashionista team and I am over-the-moon excited to share my passion for fashion with you all!
From a young age, I was always enamored by the fashion world and found inspiration in shows like What Not to Wear, America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway. My style today ranges from casual to classy, grunge to preppy and anywhere in between. My broad range of style and love of outfit experimentation has been shaped by my two aunts and my mom, even though if you ask her she will tell you our styles are nothing alike! From one aunt’s obsession with all things pink and animal print, to the others knack for the basics, and my mother’s love for the classics, they have shaped my personal style and allowed me to embrace all the outlets fashion has to offer.
Retail therapy, today, still remains one of my favorite past times and most effective stress-relieving techniques. If I’m not at the mall, you can find me scrolling through one of the 15 retail links constantly open on my computer, putting together an imaginary look-book. One of my absolute favorite things to do is style outfits and I love when people come to me seeking outfit advice. I almost never get rid of clothes in the hopes that they will eventually be recycled by either myself or my friends, who often come to raid my closet.
For my first STYLE GURU BIO, I wanted an outfit that represented my everyday style. I decided to wear my favorite Gap skinny jeans paired with a striped Anthropologie button-down. A simple look on its own, but accessorized with a floppy black fedora, layered gold bracelets, a dainty gold necklace and your go-to booties you’ve got a trendy look to take on the day! I think your everyday look says a lot about your personality and how you use fashion to slay the day. Plus, as Coco Chanel famously said, “Every day is a fashion show and the world is your runway.”
