Hello Fashionista/os! My name is Sam Peters and I am a sophomore at Boston University majoring in Journalism and minoring in Dance. I am so excited to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team this spring and impart my weekly doses of fashion to readers.
Growing up in a small, rural town in California doesn’t exactly scream high fashion, I know. For me, the editorials that littered the pages of Vogue were the stuff of dreams. But this insulated environment didn’t stop me; I loved to push the boundaries when it came to fashion even if I stuck out like a sore thumb. While most of my classmates donned flip flops and sweatpants, I came to class in heels, blazers and patterned tunics. Inspired by the likes of Leandra Medine, Emily Schuman, and of course Gossip Girl‘s favorite character Blair Waldorf, I would say my own style is very diverse. I love funky patterns, classic lines, all black and bohemian silhouettes. Experimentation is key, and I seem to find creativity lurking around every corner.
Fashion is a melting pot of inspiration and ingenuity. Everyone can sample from it, but each taste may be a little different for each individual. People are constantly contributing new and fresh ideas to the world of fashion, but not every look appeals universally to consumers. And while this may seem counter intuitive, this is where the beauty of fashion truly lies. Everyone can have their own unique fashion aesthetic and express their individuality. We all have different likes and dislikes, and it’s amazing to see identity and personality manifested through fashion in such a way.
Thus, I hope to stimulate interest in my readers by contributing to this multifarious meting pot. Take a peek, find inspiration, make a look your own. It’s a give and take process; let’s keep the chain reaction going. And remember Fashionista/os, the world is your runway.
