Hi Fashionistas/os! My name is Sam Yohannes. I am in my final semester of undergrad at Ryerson University in Toronto. I am majoring in journalism and minoring in politics. This Style Guru Bio marks my ninth semester as a CollegeFashionista intern. I write this bio with a heavy heart, as it is my last one. But I am thrilled to be back for one last hurrah as both a Style Guru and Editorial intern.
It is through this very internship that I discovered my penchant for copy editing and photo. It’s hard to express just how important this entire experience has been to my growth as a writer and photographer in a single post. I could go on and on. I feel much of what I have said in my past bios collectively encapsulate my sentiments. But I think it’s important that I share them once more.
I would be remiss if I said that I was not a product of these experiences and my surroundings. I am fortunate to have grown up with publications like Rookie and i-D that see the potential and value in young, diverse voices and cater to the sensibilities of this group that is often unaccounted for in media. Inspiration also comes fluidly when you’re as lucky as I am to live in a city populated by young folks who work hard to do what they love. I see this energy in my schoolmates and the strangers I come across during rush hour. CollegeFashionista is a soapbox for university students around the world. Because of this job, I get to interact with fascinating people I would otherwise never meet and write about something as multidimensional as fashion. I’m free to inject humor, personal anecdotes, and pop culture references as I please. My time at CollegeFashionista has undoubtedly helped me cultivate the voice I now exercise daily in my writing—professionally and recreationally.
In the spirit of going full circle, this past summer I got to meet some of the people that shaped this formative experience for me. Meeting Amy Levin and the bright team of creatives who continue to make CF a great space for budding writers and influencers will be one of my fondest memories of the last year. This may be my final semester with CF, but I hope that it is not the end of my bond with the people I met over the course of my three years as a contributor.
Here’s to one more rad semester!
