Hey there, Fashionistas/os! Happy summer! My name is Samantha Mays, and I am thrilled to have completed my freshman year at Sacred Heart University. Most importantly, I am ecstatic to be a Style Guru for the CollegeFashionista summer internship! At school, I study Marketing, Fashion Merchandising and Graphic Design. This summer, it will be nice to take a break from the books, and explore the fashion world outside of the classroom. By connecting with fellow college students, I hope to share their own unique style with the CollegeFashionista world. Be sure to visit my blog every week to see what I can find!
Now that I have introduced myself, why don’t I tell you a little bit about my interest in fashion? Growing up, I have been exposed to the fashion world in several ways. My aunt, Laura Mays, has been especially successful in the fashion industry. After landing a job for an eyeglasses company, Landis, she scored a job with Liz Claiborne and Juicy Couture as the Senior Vice President. Most recently, she was promoted to President of Artisan House. Luckily, I was able to experience some of this journey with my aunt. I have been fortunate enough to visit several offices and showrooms, as well as attend a few exciting events. My aunt has become my biggest inspiration. Ever since I was little, I have aspired to be as successful as her. Now that would be RAD!
In addition, I am also an artist. Ever since I was little, I would draw on anything I could get my hands on. Throughout high school, I enrolled in every art class imaginable. From sketching with charcoal to painting with acrylics, art has always been a true passion of mine. Although I have pondered with the idea of pursuing an artistic career, I always struggled to come to a decision. It was impossible for me to choose between a career in fashion, or a career in art. This all changed, however, when I came to a realization: fashion is art. To me, I use art to express myself in a different, unique way. Fashion allows me to do the same thing! By combining different colors, patterns, and trends, I am able to create my own, expressive style. How could it get better than this?
Well, everyone, that is my fashion story. As for my style, I am a big fan of lace, floral patterns and, of course, accessories! Although my style is ever-changing, I am already excited to be trying out new trends for the warm summer weather! I love pairing a bold pattern with a simple fabric. I always like to pick out an accessory, such as a handbag, that will complement either the color or the cut of the fabric I’m wearing. Oh, and don’t forget a fab pair of shoes! Remember to revisit my blog to see more summer trends from both me, and my peers! I can’t wait!
