Hello, hello! My name is Sammie Challender. I am a soon to be senior at University of Massachusetts Amherst. I am majoring in communications. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, so I would call it a pretty exciting time. My plans after graduation involve mixing the two things I love most; exploring the fashion and food industry!
I have just returned from studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain for a full semester. I savored every day in Barcelona. I was able to wake up and experience the streetwear of fashionable Spaniards as I sipped my café con leche. As I got more settled in Barcelona, I broke out of my fashion comfort zone, and I was constantly mixing new European styles with my go-to campus fashions.
After coming back to the United States, I have a newfound appreciation for the care that Spanish Fashionistas took in their everyday go-to outfit. Fashionistas pulled off little pops of color, a funky sock that peeped out of their platform loafer or the perfect bomber jacket. Creating color palettes, playing with texture or even paying homage to styles of the past is what makes fashion so inspiring and exciting.
In my spare time I LOVE to travel. Being back in the United States, I am already planning on what cities are close enough to visit. On any weekend you can find me tapping away on Yelp to find the newest and most delicious brunch place in town. Most days consist of my roommates telling me to lower the music as we turn on Parks and Rec and make homemade guac. This of course is before we tear through each other’s closets for the perfect weekend outfit!
As this is my first semester as a Style Guru, I could not be more excited about this opportunity, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!
