Hello all! My name is Selena Jones, and I’m currently 21 years old and living just outside northern Chicago! My friends would most likely describe me as a free spirit. I love to live my life to the fullest and take advantage of every beautiful and amazing experience life has to offer. I’m always ready for the next adventure—so becoming a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista was naturally something I was super excited and honored to be a part of!
Something that I’ve been literally DROOLING over and utterly inspired by has been Alexander Wang’s 2016 fall/winter ready-to-wear collection. If you’ve seen it, you probably are already aware of how effortlessly cool and chic it is. After viewing this, my love for being able to have an aspect of grunge in your wardrobe but still being able to look completely put together was reawakened.
Since I often find myself wearing only black and neutral colors, I decided I needed something to break up all of the black I wore on this day. I added elements of silver and gray to really make this look pop. I chose my small satchel purse and bold, over-sized aviator sunglasses which are silver and chrome. I personally like to keep the metals I wear all in the same color family, so with silver hardware on my leather jacket, it was natural for me to choose silver accessories.
Speaking of cool, Chicago is freezing come the end of December! I know any of my fellow Fashionistas/o that live in a place that has winters just as harsh knows winter fashion can be difficult. It’s hard to feel and look your best when you’re shivering and have no choice but to bundle up. So for this look, I decided to layer a black leather jacket over my favorite fuzzy sweater. Under, I decided to go for a grunge-y distressed graphic T-shirt and bralette. And of course you can’t go wrong with a nice pair of black leather leggings, black beanie, and black sock booties! One of the only benefits of cold weather (in my opinion, because who likes snow?) I see are being able to mix and match different textures. This is something I really took away from Alexander Wang’s fall/winter collection. Layering unexpected textures and using small details such as hardware or accessories can help take your winter looks from blah to smoking hot.
Be sure to keep up with me on social media! And until next time, I want to challenge my readers to try something new every day. Happy holidays!
