Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Serena Shroge, and I am a sophomore at Kent State University. I am studying fashion merchandising with a minor in marketing. I am a member of the outstanding sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, the Fashion Student Organization and the KSU Annual Fashion Show model committee. I also currently work at a Michael Kors outlet store. Everything I do revolves around my desire to thrive in the fashion industry.
I knew I wanted to be involved in fashion as early as elementary school. By the fifth grade, I had filled multiple composition notebooks with traced croquis and labeled flats. I’m not going to lie and say they were impressive. They are actually quite frightening to look at, but that is where I got my start. I always dreamed of being a fashion student, designing garments and being around what I grew so passionate about, and here I am.
I do not have one specific style or look that I consistently choose to rock. Y’s Yves Saint Laurent put it best, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” I believe that the fashion world and all of its trends evolve too quickly for me to choose one style or the other. One day I’ll put on my black jeans, lace-up my black combat boots, throw on a black leather bomber jacket and complain that there’s no darker color than black, and the next day, I’ll twirl around in a blossom lace dress with daisies in my hair. Every day holds a new opportunity to experiment with a new look and feel confident wearing something unique.
In this look, I’m wearing a cozy cream cardigan styled over a classic denim button-down shirt. The faux leather skirt and silver chain jewelry give a subtle, hard edge, while my wedged booties and knee-high socks tie in some pleasant, dainty details and bring the whole look together.
