I was going to open this bio with a quote from The Office but I just spent an hour laughing at gifs on Tumblr before remembering that I have things to do.
So, hello! It is I, Shanna Merceron, a Style Guru representing the beautiful University of Florida. I’m an English major with a concentration in children’s literature, as well as a member of the advanced fiction-writing department at UF. So basically the plan is to just casually become the next J.K. Rowling. I am also a sales and marketing intern for the University Press of Florida because publishing is cool too.
My hobbies include reading an unhealthy amount of books and purchasing an even unhealthier amount. (Barnes and Noble really rolls out the red carpet for me.) I like to visit quirky coffee shops because taking pictures of them keeps my Instagram aesthetic alive. For Halloween this year I dressed up as Daenerys Targaryen and mango is my favorite flavor. My type is curly haired musician (talking to you Matty Healy) and if you bring up The Bee Movie around me prepare for war. I’ve also been practicing martial arts since pre-school so I really know my stuff.
I don’t think I really started to care about what I was wearing until eighth grade. I remember the summer before that year started I said to my mom, “Only buy me bohemian clothes. That’s gonna be my new style.” I ended up just getting a lot of long skirts and v-necks to match them. If only 13 year-old me could see my fringe jacket now.
Today my style is an eclectic mix of ever-changing trends to match my ever-changing moods. But I clearly have a thing for black boots: I just bought my twentieth pair today. My studded leather motorcycle jacket is a staple along with what I’ve dubbed “pirate” shirts and ripped jeans. I like looking like the protagonist of a dystopian novel. Or sometimes I clean myself up and become a Bond girl. I had a teacher in high school that called me “Double 0 Sevenette” because of my fondness for a tailored coat. But the most important thing about whatever I wear, is that my lipstick choice of the day matches. I’m not a Sephora VIB Rouge member for nothing. Hope to see ya on the streets Fashionistas/os!
