Hi there, Fashionistas/os! I’m Shannon Deuel, a proud Penn Stater beginning my sophomore year this fall, which will no doubt be filled with determination, mystery and a whole lot of sass! After teetering between several communications majors, I recently decided that Public Relations was the perfect fit for me, thanks to an eye-opening summer internship with a local firm. I’ve loved every minute since, and I’m excited to “be the sponge!” as they say, and soak up all the great writing and social media experience that this amazing opportunity has to offer!
Growing up, I didn’t have nearly as much interest in fashion as I do today. This stemmed from just a sheer lack of confidence in myself and my body, but I gradually learned how to love and accentuate the best parts of myself with new colors and fabrics. I love the way fashion can be used to help stop people from covering up their insecurities and start finding a new inner confidence for themselves. Needless to say, I’m more than a little hyped to meet new people with the same passion as mine: to love their bodies and spread some bold and bright positivity to the world!
A key attribute of mine happens to be my utter indecisiveness, which doesn’t just describe my choice in majors, but my fashion routine as well. More often than not, my day doesn’t really start until I leave my room looking like a horrendous hot mess of clothes, makeup, and jewelry. To save time, I find that versatility is essential when you’re always in a hurry to find the right look for the day.
Keeping versatility in mind, this cotton high-waisted white skirt is a must for many quick outfit combinations. Its edgy black stripes can be dressed up or down with a simple, sharp blazer, or in my case, a denim chambray button-down shirt. Instead of flats, I mixed up this outfit with some black leather wedge sandals. Add your favorite shade of lipstick and a complimentary statement necklace to throw in a pop off color for your final look! You can also switch this look from day to night by swapping in a pair of heels and a leather jacket: you’ll be all set for whatever life throws at you!
