Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Sheila Avila and I am a soon to be sophomore at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. I’m majoring in fashion merchandising with a minor in Spanish; I’ve always been passionate for school and fashion so being able to incorporate both is super exciting. I hope to work as a merchandiser for a big retail store like Forever 21 or H&M one day. For now, I cannot wait to have a rad summer with CollegeFashionista!
Fashionista is a word that my friends and family use to describe me and I couldn’t agree more. As a young girl I remember my mother always dressing me up and taking me shopping. I blame her for my obsession of walk-in closets and shopping malls. My inspiration changes from day to day. However, on the daily music is my main inspiration. I consider myself a music snob, but love meeting people with the same music taste as me. Being a Chicana is a big part of my identity, so incorporating my culture into my style is a huge factor. Looking at my mom’s photos from when she lived in Mexico is my favorite way of being inspired.
Starting college in a small town in central Washington wasn’t the most exciting for this Style Guru. So I decided to make this campus my runway. Growing up in the everyday sunshine of southern California; sun dresses and sandals where my fashion essentials. Now living in Central Washington my style has broadened to include everything from snow boots to crop tops. You can spot me strutting the campus in an outfit accommodated to the weather.
My outfit in this post was styled around my fluffy coat. Since it was sunny outside but chilly I decided to style the coat with high-waisted jeans and a crop top. The hat and scarf where essential to add some style. As a whole, I was content with the outfit.
As I begin this journey with CollegeFashionista I hope to learn from other Style Gurus and inspire others to embrace their roots!
