STYLE GURU BIO: Staci Soslowitz

My name is Staci and I am about to start my freshman year at Syracuse University. My planned major at this point is magazine journalism through the S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications. My all time goal is to be the next Anna Wintour (a girl can dream)!

I’ve had a love for fashion ever since I was a toddler trying on my older sisters heels and pretending I was a supermodel (once again, a girl can dream). I’ve always been fascinated by various designers’ silhouettes, coordination of outfits and ability to convey personality through clothing. I always get inspired by Teen Vogue, my monthly Bible, to give me the hottest tips on what’s trending on the runways.

Despite a full academic and extracurricular schedule, I still managed to prioritize my career in the fashion industry. I took steps to ensure that I took advantage of every fashion-related course available at my high school. This ranged from sewing to marketing to drawing. I was open to learning everything there was to know about the industry since there are so many aspects to the business. Inspired by two classic movies, 13 Going on 30 and The Devil Wears Prada, I realized I wanted to pursue a career in journalism after seeing the inner workings of a fashion publication. Although these movies showed me how competitive and ruthless the industry can be, I still fantasized about what it would be like to run my own magazine.

My love for fashion grew even stronger when I signed up to take pre-college courses at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. There I enrolled to take fashion forecasting and fashion journalism. The pre-college program at FIT was an amazing experience. I got to learn what it was like to really be in the industry. We were able to hear from industry professionals as well.

Like almost every little girl, I always loved to play dress up. Putting pieces together gave me a sense of control and self-expression. I can honestly say that my wardrobe says a lot about my personality. I don’t like to put a label on my sense of style because it can vary from day to day. It usually depends on how I am feeling and how the weather is outside. However, if I had to choose I’d say I dress very girly. I would wear Chanel every day if I could. Their pieces tend to be feminine however, they are able to recreate iconic looks in new ways. My outfit today really showcases my personality. It is comfy and casual yet edgy and chic.

I hope that through this internship I continue to learn more about fashion and all that it has to offer! I can’t wait to spot all of the Fashionistas/os on my campus!
