My name is Stephanie Hartog and this is my first semester writing for CollegeFashonista as a Style Guru. I am a third year at Santa Barbara City College majoring in communications. With communications as my educational path I’m hoping that I will find a way to incorporate fashion into my future career. Growing up in the greater Los Angeles area, fashion has always been a part of my life. From a young age what I wore and what trends would overtake the next season consumed my thoughts.
I feel that I have never been limited to one style, each day brings me a different mood to execute. It ranges from boho beach girl to ’90s grunge. While sometimes I like to be girly, other times I like wearing oversized jeans and flannels. I feel that as long as your authentic to what you’re feeling that day; you will feel confident and, after all, the main purpose of fashion is to feel confident and empowered in your own skin.
Style has always been and always will be a way to make my everyday routine more exciting. Everyday I wake up excited to try something new and explore the possibilities that fashion holds. For this look I decided to wear some of my favorites; I started with a plain white T-shirt and tied it in a knot. Next, I threw on my favorite statement piece, my embroidered faux leather jacket, because it takes any outfit to the next level. Then I added these distressed jeans, which are the absolute love of my life—the fit, color, and rips make them my absolute favorite pair. Lastly, I’m wearing my Jeffrey Campbell booties, I love the western flare they add to my outfits.
I can not wait to see what this new year and semester has in store for me, and I am so excited to share a piece of me with all of you.
