Hello everyone! My name is Sydney Haymond and I am a fashion merchandising and magazine journalism double major at the University of Georgia. I am halfway through my second year at UGA and am starting my second term as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I learned so much and had so much fun throughout my first semester as a Guru, so I am excited to be joining the team once again!
Being both in the classroom learning about fashion and observing the style on campus have inspired me so much already. I have learned that you don’t have to be in a fashion capital to hear about and see great fashion. Athens is an emerging hot-spot for millennial culture, especially fashion. There are endless boutiques and fashion shows happening all around the city. I am excited to keep exploring all that Athens and its people have to offer. I have been given so many great opportunities in college and writing for CollegeFashionista has been one of the greatest.
My outfit was worn to an extended-family gathering, but it can really be translated and worn a number of places. The outfit features a long, tunic-style and cowl-neck sweater that is light tan weaved with navy and brown. The colors are neutrals, but still brighten up the outfit. I wore navy, flared jeans, which accent the navy in the sweater and make the outfit look more mature than simple leggings. I wore brown suede lace-up wedges to bring in more texture and height to the outfit. I also like to wear some sort of heel, whether a wedge, boot or platform when I wear flared pants to extend the line of my legs and keep my pants from dragging behind me. In terms of accessories, I focused on a statement necklace with large crystal hanging off the bottom of a long strand of pearls. Simple gold tinted makeup and a half-up hair style kept me looking youthful and fresh even when I’m trying my best to look mature amongst the adults.
