Ciao my fellow Fashionistas! My name is Taylor Knox and this is my second semester at CollegeFashionista. I will be starting off my summer in Rome, Italy for a three-week study abroad program through the University of Minnesota, in addition to an extra week of vacation around the country. I am so excited to spend the first few weeks of the summer in one of the most fashionable countries in the world!
I am delighted to continue my position as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista for another semester! This upcoming school year I will begin my last year as an undergrad studying communications and fashion at the University of Minnesota. I am excited to wrap up my education in Minnesota and soon move on to somewhere like New York City or Los Angeles.
Being here in Italy has given me the desire to—for the third time this year—go through my closet and throw out those out-of-style pieces I just can’t let go of. There is nothing worse than being told “You can’t go out in that outfit!” by a trendy Italian student. Over the past year, I have been trying to get rid of any pieces that are merely there to serve a nostalgic purpose, and begin refining my style.
I often switch between classic/clean and casual/boho styles. As any fashion lover does, I am constantly shopping and revitalizing my closet. Still, I have pieces from high school that I once loved and want to hold on to. But there is nothing more true about fashion than the fact that it is constantly evolving and one must evolve with it.
Here, I wanted to play with irony and go for a 1990s tourist look. While my thrifted T-shirt explicitly has the year 2008 stamped on the top left, the style reminds me of what I’ve seen my parents wearing in old photos with above-the-knee denim shorts and white tennis shoes. All that’s missing is a brightly colored fanny pack and tall socks.
