Happy New Years, Gurus! My name is Taylor Roots, I’m 19 years old, and I go to the University of Kentucky! I was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, but I decided to move to Lexington to study what I love. I’m a fashion merchandising major with a double minor in business and communications, and after I graduate from UK I plan on launching my own styling company along with other various businesses to make my mark on the world. Until then, I’m focusing on gaining experience within the industry and becoming a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista is one of my first steps.
Although fashion is an obsession for me, I do love other things. I am addicted to reality TV, Netflix and chill (alone) is a daily activity for me, and I absolutely love chocolate and candy. In addition to my lazy activities, I love shopping which is probably why I want to be a stylist and shop for everyone for a living. Like everyone else, I have my favorite stores that include Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, American Eagle Outfitters, and Sephora. However, my favorite designers and/or brands include Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen, Versace, and Riccardo Tisci among others. All in all, if I’m not watching TV shows, runway shows, or shopping, I’m styling.
For my shoot, I decided to pick an early winter outfit that really showcased my personal taste.
My closet mainly consists of neutral or dark colors which are perfect for the winter season. I decided to pair my black thigh high boots with a black velvet top since velvet has been a hot trend this year. To make my plaid skirt pop, I decided to pair a denim jacket with it which simultaneously brought everything together. As far as accessories, I kept it simple with a light scarf, a backpack, Kate Spade stud earrings, a gold Michael Kors watch, and a gold Alex and Ani bangle. This look captures me perfectly because it’s sophisticated, feminine, and sticks to a dark color palette.
My style is my signature; it’s how I express myself and how I show the world who I am. However, with this internship, I hope to capture the style of those on my college campus. As I always say and strongly believe, “style is the most expressive part of the soul.” My main goal this semester is to capture that part of various souls and share it with the world.
Cheers to a #RAD new year and semester Gurus! Go Cats!
