Guess who’s back, back again? Tessa’s back, tell a friend. Hi all, my name is Tessa and I am thrilled to be back with CollegeFashionista for my fourth semester! I’m so excited that I’m petitioning Eminem to change the original words of the song.
Anyways, I’m a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying communication arts and digital studies with certificates in photography and fashion industry essentials. Eventually I would like to be the creative director of a major fashion label or magazine, but I have plenty of time to work my way there.
Until that time comes, I have many personal, passion projects in the works. I currently run a freelance photography business named Solus Photography. Here, I work with both SLR and DLSR cameras. This means that you can often find me in the darkroom making negatives, mixing chemicals, and developing pictures taken with silver halide film.
This semester I have rediscovered photography as an art form rather than just a tool for posting my latest on social media. Berenice Abbott, an admirable photographer, once said that “Photography helps people to see.” When words cannot capture the magnitude of something, a picture tells the story better.
Recently, I shot and developed a series on sexual assault. It hit home to such a large college community that has been witness to such events in the past. I also shot a more optimistic series on finding faith in a time of darkness. All in all, I’m inspired to try some different, innovative things in my photography this semester, so be sure to follow!
Snowy winters of Wisconsin make for amazing shoots that help me showcase my favorite styles of the season. This particular season, I’m obsessed with turtlenecks. The great thing about the trend is that they are simultaneously chic and warm. Faux fur is also a staple in my winter wardrobe. This fur vest serves the same purpose as most turtlenecks, cozy and cute to boot. I accessorize with some some other cold weather necessities, laced thigh-high boots and a stitched beanie, to prepare to slay on the streets in this new year.
In sum, I am an artist. Photography and fashion are my mediums. I am ecstatic to be a part of the #GuruGang once again, and hope to bring content worthy of the word masterpiece to the table.
