Aloha, my name is Tiana Halbuna and I’m currently a senior at Northern Arizona University. I was born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii and made the big move out to the states just after finishing up my freshmen year at University of Hawaii West Oahu. I’ve been the “odd” one since middle school. I’ve always been super eccentric and just different compared to my peers at the prestigious college prep school I attended since kindergarten. I have always dressed differently (of course on free-dress days, as I was attending a private school with uniforms). This style of dressing myself beyond grade school still left a lasting impression on other students roaming the halls of the university, either good or bad. I had been itching to get off of the island immediately after high school and although staying home for a year was beneficial in a lot of ways, the move off the rock was what I needed and wanted most. For once I was able to dress “in season” and experience the thrill of having different wardrobes for the beautiful four seasons Northern Arizona has to offer.
I finally felt comfortable to push the envelope on a number I would typically pass on back in Hawaii. It really wasn’t because of what people thought of me or how I thought I should dress in a school sitting back in 85 degree weather with what felt like 100 percent humidity… no, it’s just in the mainland I am just one among the 30,000 other students part of the NAU body that has the opportunity to express myself freely and fashionably in the threads of my choice. Starting a fashion and travel blog felt natural since moving to Arizona because I am able to showcase the outfits I styled in a typical setting out here in Northern Arizona. Coming across this internship and holding the title of a #StyleGuru was a beautiful discovery in a world of fashion I can call “style heaven.” Here I will showcase my favorite looks and interesting ensembles friends, strangers and myself have put together out of pure creativity and style.
