Coming into college with more than forty transferable credits, I am currently a first-year college student with credits standing as a junior. The transition from being in a small town to a big city was a big step for me. I declared fashion merchandising as a concentration of product development as my major for my undergraduate studies. I was not sure if my decision of pursuing fashion and art was the right choice, but after stepping foot onto Virginia Commonwealth University it helped me realize that fashion is my passion and there is a drive inside of me to pursue this path.
Art and fashion have always played a big role in my life. I find it inspiring and expressive in many ways. Most times, I find that some of the most beautiful things in life are interpreted through art and fashion. In high school, I have always felt different from most. Art and fashion were not relevant in my high school, so I was that girl that played dress up every day. I can express myself and feel more confident through fashion.
Richmond is the perfect place for any student who loves art and fashion. Art, music, and fashion flow through the city. It is upbeat and energetic. Murals and live music thrive to capture the attention of everyone around the city. That is one thing I love most about living in the city.
Most days, when the city gets too busy for me, I settle down with a nice cup of green tea and a nice book. Being bilingual, literate in both Vietnamese and English, I enjoy literature and it’s a big part of my life. Poetry is my favorite thing to read, the romance behind it makes life more beautiful. In addition to literature, I also love photography. I find nothing more satisfying than being able to capture a moment so beautiful it cannot be put into words.
As for my outfit above, I have composed it out of very simple pieces of clothing. A light pink trench coat, a loosely fitted turtle neck, a pair of leggings, and to contrast it all, a pair of red Madison Valentino look-alike beaded flats. As for my accessories, I finish my outfit off with a floppy hat and a white Kate Spade shoulder strap handbag. Dressed apart, these articles of clothing can be very plain and simple, but one with a creative eye can make something once plain, into something more complex and beautiful.
